Installing the Agile Offroad 28-Gallon Fresh Water Tank in a Sprinter Camper Van

If you’re building out your camper van, one of the trickiest things is figuring out where to put your fresh water tank without eating up valuable interior space. We just finished installing an Agile Offroad 28-gallon fresh water tank in a Sprinter van, and I wanted to share a quick overview of the process and why this setup is such a smart choice.

Smart Use of Wasted Space

This particular tank is designed to fit in the space where your spare tire would normally be mounted — underneath the van. For many van builders and owners who choose to run without a spare (or store it elsewhere), this is an incredible use of what is otherwise wasted space. You’re not taking up room inside your build, and the tank is completely hidden and protected underneath the van.

Key Features of the Agile Offroad Tank

  • 28-gallon capacity
Perfect for extended off-grid trips without needing constant refills.

  • Multiple fill options
The tank gives you flexibility in how you fill it. There’s a gravity feed option if you prefer a simple and quick fill, or you can use the high-pressure fill port, which connects through a valved CPC quick-connect fitting. This is an extremely clean and efficient setup if you’re integrating the tank with a full plumbing system.

  • Durable design
Agile Offroad is known for building products that hold up to the demands of off-road and adventure travel. The tank is constructed to withstand tough conditions and will give you years of reliable service.

Installation Overview

The installation itself is pretty straightforward:

  1. Mounting
The tank is secured in the spare tire location with provided brackets. You’ll need to ensure it’s properly supported and tightened to avoid any shifting when you’re driving rough roads.

  2. Plumbing

    • Connect your gravity fill port or the high-pressure fill to your van’s water system or external fill point.

    • Run your water lines from the tank to your pump or plumbing manifold.

    • Install your CPC valve if you’re using the high-pressure fill option.

  3. Testing
Once installed, we filled the tank to test for leaks and ensure proper flow. Everything worked perfectly.

Final Thoughts

I’m super impressed with how well this Agile Offroad tank utilizes space. In van builds, every inch counts, and being able to store 28 gallons of fresh water underneath the van is a huge win. It keeps the interior open for living space and gear, while giving you plenty of water capacity for showers, drinking, and dishes.

If you’re building a Sprinter camper van and looking for a fresh water solution, this is one of the smartest upgrades you can make.
