Lithium Power Upgrade for a 2021 Shamrock Trailer
In the shop this week, we had a 2021 23-foot Shamrock trailer come in with a frustrating issue: the customer kept flattening their batteries during camping trips. Naturally, we dug in to find the source of the problem—and we didn’t have to look far.
When we opened the battery case, we found a mismatched pair of deep cycle batteries. One of them was a green Interstate battery that was, frankly, toast. Mixing different battery types (especially when one is near the end of its life) is a surefire way to kill your power reliability—especially when you're relying on them off-grid.
The Fix: Lithium Power & a Smart Setup
To get this rig back to adventure-ready status, we upgraded the system with an Epoch 300 amp hour heated lithium battery. These batteries are powerful, efficient, and built to withstand colder temps—thanks to the integrated heating system. That’s huge for anyone who camps in shoulder seasons or higher elevations.
Even better, this swap was super simple thanks to the trailer’s newer electrical system. The Shamrock came stock with an auto-detect converter, which can recognize and properly charge either lead-acid or lithium batteries. That meant no need for a converter upgrade—just a clean battery install.
We also reprogrammed the Go Power solar charge controller, switching it from a lead-acid profile to lithium so the solar charging system could keep things topped off efficiently.
The Result?
A reliable, long-lasting power system that keeps the customer camping longer and off-grid without the stress of dead batteries.
